Round Three

Well I woke up on cloud 9 this morning. This week was full of frustration in boy land, but ended on a happy note.

On Thursday night M and I met up for dinner at a local restaurant (ironically he chose the one restaurant I used to frequent with Mr. Wrong. Oh well, now I have a new memory there!). He was there early to make sure he could put our name on the list if there was a wait (+1). Then we went and sat down and started our conversation. The date went well overall, with the exception of the lacking waitress who kept messing up our orders. M is  really nice guy, but I'm still not sure if the physical chemistry is there. It's totally a me thing, he is my height, and smaller then most guys I usually date.I just need to get over that, and over my perception of myself as being able to crush him. Obviously he doesn't feel that way. M still feels like a friend. It's easy for me to banter and be sarcastic around him. He has great family values and the same plans for the future as I do. I am still interested in getting to know him more. We hugged good bye and he said he wanted to hang out again soon.

All week D and I had been playing text tag, I guess that is what you would call one text a day. It took me calling him out on his lack of text skills for him to narrow down a date. He followed through with wanting to meet at the Galleria for shopping, drinks, and dinner. We met up at 5:30 and walked around. I remembered how cute he was...so stinkin' cute. He had a gift card to Banana (our shared love) and we went to go spend it. We walked around the store in the men's section and he let me play personal shopper. I picked some things out and he went and tried them on. He ended up buying most of what I picked out. It was a really cute moment. Maybe it was because it was combining my love for shopping with someone that I am interested in. After that we continued to walk around, stopped for coffee at Nordstrom's and sat and shared stories. We have alot of the same college experiences. He was your typical frat boy and I was the stunning sorority girl. Conversation just flows with him and I really like hearing about his past. We continued to shop some more. He kept saying these things that we should do together like go have wine, or run the trail, or see movies. I found myself not being like "yeah", because I didn't want to psych myself up for wanting to do these things with him and them not happening. After several hours of shopping and talking, we went to Mi Co for some drinks and dinner. We both shared crazy stories and had a good time. I even found myself starting to invite him to future events, like my upcoming St. Pat's parade plans and going out with my girls tomorrow night. AHHH, so confusing. I am definitely into this boy, I just hope he is into me as well.

With that comes the confusion. It's not easy to date two boys at one time. You find yourself forgetting what stories you have shared. And ultimately I feel guilty about leading someone on. However, I'm not really sure if I'm leading anyone on here. I am still getting to know both of them, and both relationships are very much in the beginning stages.

I'm already ready for round four! Gotta go shopping today for some new date outfits!

Lessons of Love

I have to believe that all you need is love... love comes in all different forms, and for this single girl love is all around her.

Here are lessons I've learned from all the loves of my life:

- Be with someone who you can be crazy goofy with
- A guy that can cook is a definite turn on, especially when they have jazz music on and a open bottle of wine.
- Just because things are easy, doesn't mean they are always right
- You should be proud of the person you are with, and want to show them off... He should be screaming from the rooftops that you are his lady
- A guy should pursue you
- A relationship with family is a must, especially if you want to have one of your own someday.
- Judge a guy by the way he treats his mother
- Birth Order DOES matter-I need to date a guy who is not the oldest child (like myself)
- Dating should be an experience that is full of firsts
- He must have a relationship with God
- Communication is make or break in a relationship
- Being in love isn't a feeling
- Loving someone is not trying to change them
- When you are around that special someone, they should make you feel like the most beautiful girl in the room
- You do deserve to be told you are pretty, smart, funny, beautiful, witty, amazing, etc
- While I want my boyfriend to be my best friend, I don't want to fall in love with someone who was previously my best friend
- First dates should be spent sober
- In a relationship both people should be equals
- He should not be pursuing you while he is dating someone else, engaged, or married. UGH!
- Long distance relationships are hard
- You must understand each other's Language of Love (a must read)
- Trust is hard to regain once it is lost
- A guy who wants to be with you will move mountains and swim oceans.
- Good things do come to those who wait

Special shout out to all my exes who live in Texas... If it wasn't for you guys screwing up, I would never have had the opportunity to meet my Mr. Forever. From each of you I have learned what I want and what I deserve from the man in my life.

You've gotta kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince. I guess I have A LOT more kissing to do!

Retreat Night

Ok so I decided to "choose my attitude" especially after D texted me this afternoon. I swear these boys read my blog ;)

Tonight I retreated to one of the places where I feel the best about myself... my parents house. Every single girl needs a place where she can go put her hair in a pony tail, pull on a old pair of pajama pants, and eat a smore.

My parents and I went to get the early bird special at Outback (they love the chain restaurants) my Dad was super pumped that they had a "sweetheart special". Don't get me wrong, I think its great if people enjoy the quality of Outback... but if a guy took me to Outback for the "sweetheart special" on our first Valentines, I think I would have to run. I realize that sounds snobby, but as a Savvy Singleton, I've learned that I want a date that has a little more creativity and a little more atmosphere then some 50+ crowd excited about the free Aussie Fries as they wait for a table. Regardless, as I was sitting in the booth across from my parents, I couldn't help but watch their body language. After being married for almost 32 years, my dad still puts his arm around my mom at dinner. Even though he might not use the best table manners, I can tell my mom still looks at him the same way she did when they met. Maybe I take back my earlier statement of running out of the Outback on a date. Maybe it doesn't matter where you go with the one you love, just as long as you are together.

All today I have been kinda frustrated about D, and his busy schedule. I was disappointed when he texted me saying that he wanted to meet up at the same place we did last time, the mall to walk around. Instead of being so negative about it, maybe I should think of that as our meet up place. The place where he feels comfortable and we are able to talk freely about our experiences. I also need to lay off being so into him and making this work. Yes, I am extremely excited that he is a possibility, but I also have to remember dating is a slow process. I don't want a instant relationship, I want to be that couple in the booth at Outback excited about sharing some cheesecake that comes with the "sweetheart special".

Thanks mom and dad for giving me a relationship to compare all others against! I love you!

Here are some quotes I found to cheer me on (and all my other singletons out there) during these upcoming days of seeing "smug married couples" everywhere-

"Being single used to mean that nobody wanted you. Now it means you're pretty sexy and you're taking your time deciding how you want your life to be and who you want to spend it with."- Sex and the City  (LOVE THIS ONE!!!!)

"You do not need to be loved, not at the cost of yourself. The single relationship that is truly central and crucial in a life is the relationship to the self. Of all the people you will know in a lifetime, you are the only one you will never lose."- Jo Courdert

"You can explore the universe looking for somebody who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and you will not find that person anywhere."
- Anonymous

"Sometimes you have to stand alone to prove that you can still stand."- Anonymous

"Being single isn’t bad. What is bad is giving up hope on finding that someone special."

Cupid= STUPID!

At this current moment this is how I feel about Valentines Day and all this yucky love stuff. I'm not usually a Bitter Betty about this love holiday, but no contact from M and D has left a bad taste in my mouth. A follow up blog to come tonight...

Sights of Dallas

I saw this while shopping at the Dallas Galleria... too good not to share! Guess I will be seeing all of you ladies at the gym! ;)

Control Freak

I really have a problem... I am a control freak when it comes to dating. No matter how hard I try not to control a situation, I always some how try to manipulate it to be the same way I saw it in my head. I think this control issue mostly rears its ugly head in relationships.

I am by no means someone who tries to control the other person, just someone who tries to control the way things work out. I blame this on being the first born child, and my desire for things to go as planned. The unexpected freaks me out!

I bring up this control issue because all week I have been battling with trying not to take the control in my blossoming relationships with M and D. Both boys must have read my last blog, because the next day they both were contacting me and wanting to meet up. They both braved the Dallas Ice Storm of '11 to meet me up (which looking back now, is really flattering!).

M met up with me on Thursday at Grand Luxe for happy hour, and then the next day D called to meet up for coffee and shopping. Both of these guys got a extra bonus on these 2nd dates, because my friend Amanda third wheeled it on both occasions. ( I know what you're thinking, but we were snowed in, and I wasn't going to ditch one of my favorite girls for a boy... Plus, I wanted her opinion).  The verdict was that each date went really well, and my friend gave the thumbs up on both boys.

I didn't hear from either boy Saturday, and went into complete control freak mode. All I wanted to do was text and say hello. I know that I want a guy that pursues me, so why do I feel the need to contact them? UGH! Needless to say, my friends talked me down from picking up the phone and sending the lame "hey there" or "who do you think will win the game". Neediness is not attractive in a perspective girlfriend. I filled my Sunday and my soul by attending church and community group.  This time at church helped pacify me from making the fatal mistake of being the girl that is annoying and stalker-like; and reminded me that I am not the one in control of my path... God is.

I made it through the Sunday night (surviving the Super Bowl). I heard from M as the game started, but was still anxiously wanting to hear from D. As I lay in bed I said a little prayer to the Lord, telling him that I was giving him control of my path. Ironically, five minutes later at 10:45 pm, D texted me. I am going to take that as a sign that God is saying to me "Jenn, sit back and enjoy the ride, I got this!"

I am the worst player EVER in the "waiting game".  In my head I keep day dreaming about one of them calling me and setting up a date for this week. I guess this shows that I am intrigued by both M and D. I do have to also remind myself that this is "Valentine Week"... so what single guy in his right mind is going to be putting himself out there this week?

My plan of attack for M and D... just sit and wait. Even though it sucks, that is what I need to do right now. So between now and Monday... I will be wearing mittens when I am alone so that I don't fulfill my need to reach out and text someone...Its a Mittervention!
