Thank you note #2

Dear chick at the gym in the white tank top,

Oh thank heaven for girls like you! The rest of us females really enjoy your ginormous fake boobs popping out of your low cut tank top, as you "lift" weights in the weight room. You really should be the one thanking your plastic surgeon for the botch job of a triple f. I really appreciated your effort in acting like you were lifting the bar over your head, when truly you were only checking yourself out in the mirror. Those guys looking at you, were not acknowledging your beauty, but merely how you looked like an idiot who was trying too hard!  Oh and thank you for NOT wearing a bra under that thin white tank top. I already felt naseous from my 45 min on the treadmill, but you added to the gag factor.

Thank you for helping me lose my appetite,
Savvy

28 things I learned in my 28th year

  1. Getting older doesn't make life any less messy.
  2. Sometimes in life, you have to trust your gut. If it doesn't feel right, then it probably isn't.
  3. A guy is worth my time if he is able to follow the 4 P's: Protect, Provide, Profess (aka DTR), and have Passion (aka chemistry)
  4. True friends are the ones who are there to catch you when you fall (thank you all).
  5. My mom will always be my best friend.
  6. I can run.
  7. Life is much easier when you are an optimist.
  8. The Bible isn't that hard to read.
  9. If you can't love everything about yourself, no one else will be able to either.
  10. I am good luck for the Texas Rangers.
  11. Binge drinking is no longer something my body can handle (thank goodness).
  12. I'm actually a pretty decent cook.
  13. Even though my friends keep getting married and having babies, it doesn't make them any less of a friend to me.
  14. I am a diet coke addict, I've tried to stop, but my profession requires it!
  15. I'm getting better at doing things by myself.
  16. Just because someone is older then you, it doesn't mean they are necessarily wiser then you.
  17. I can't date anyone more social then me!
  18. I am an emotional person, that is just me, deal with it.
  19. Simplifying your life can be freeing. Giving things to those in need is even better.
  20. I'd rather be single and happy, then in a relationship that doesn't fill my love tank.
  21. If you don't want to kiss a guy you're dating, then he's nothing more then a friend.
  22. Family is important to me.
  23. I feel better when I workout at least 3 times a week.
  24. God has amazing plans for me, I need to rely on him more and on myself less.
  25. Being able to walk to the store, restaurants, and bars is pretty awesome. I don't think I could ever live in the booming burb until I have kids.
  26. You have to leave the past in the past if you want any chance of a future.
  27.  Patience.
  28.  I'm beautiful inside and out.

Thank you note #1

*** I am continuing Jimmy Fallon's "Thank You" letter idea. If you haven't heard or read his book, its hilarious!

Dear couple at the pool,

I just wanted to thank you for your extreme level of PDA that you displayed at the apartment pool this afternoon. If it weren't for the people swimming around you, you probably would have thought you were at a couple's honeymoon hotel or even better yet in your private back yard. I really appreciated how you the man, never let your woman's feet touch the bottom of the pool as you held her tightly in your arms. The two of you had great dynamics, especially as you the female would arch your back like a synchronized swimmer or better yet a porn star. I appreciate the level of intimacy you brought to the 20+ on lookers at the pool, oh and the elementary aged child. There were many times were you could have made your love swim rated R, but I thank you for keeping it PG-13.

Once again, I thank you for letting this single girl appreciate celibacy on a Sunday afternoon at the apartment pool. You have definitely shown me that just because there is a crowd, it doesn't mean you have to keep your hands where we can see them.

I hope next Sunday you can get a room, or a bigger towel,
Savvy

Fitness Barbie

WARNING: This blog may contain some whining and self loathing.
I think my new goal in life is to become a fitness barbie. Tonight as I drove to dinner to meet my friend, I noticed all the fitness barbies running down the street in their Nike running shorts and tanks. Instead of coming home from work and using my new gym membership, I chose to lay on my comfy red couch and then go eat a turkey melt at Common Table (which was fabulous by the way).

Since moving to Uptown, I've felt this underlying pressure to improve myself- physically, emotionally, domestically, educationally, financially, socially, romantically. Maybe its the location, or maybe its just that I'm turning a year older in a week. Regardless, I want to make some changes. I want to become fitness barbie. I want to become one of those girls that has to workout before they go to dinner or grab drinks,. Last year at this time I was obsessed with my fitness boot camp class, but now going to a class is the furthest thing from what I want to do. How could I.. when I take classes I am surrounded by fitness barbies!!! Its a vicous cycle folks!

So how do I get there? How do I focus on fitness, especially when my job is starting up and I am lacking free time?  I'd love to hear your comments!

Dating is like buying a car

Tonight I went to an awesome singles service @ Watermark called the Porch. The singles pastor, JP, started a series called "Boy Meets Girl". Its a five part series about dating, which lets face it, I need all the help I can get!

JP used a great analogy on buying a car and finding a potential mate...which I love, and am totally going to steal and put in my own words!

So I think my problem is, like when buying a car, I know what I like (something really shiny, dependable, and in-between flashy and family) but don't really have an exact list of what I am wanting to purchase. But to be honest, if I were to talk on a car lot right now, I have no idea what I'd be looking for, or even what model I would even be interested in buying for the next 6-7 years! I can't even visualize myself in a new car, becauese I don't know what I want. I know I want a new car, but I haven't really taken the time to do the research as to what I want. Maybe that is the problem with my dating life... I know what is appealing, but I don't really have a criteria set for what I am looking to spend the next 40-50 years with! Marriage is a much bigger commitment to me then choosing a car is!

I think in the past I set my standards low for what I was purchasing. I just wanted to get in a new car (relationship) so bad, that I made it work. I was blinded by the test drive, and all of the sudden was signing the paperwork and working out a seven year (or seven month) loan. At least that was the scenario with Mr. Wrong, he had the outward appeal of being a good guy, but really on the inside needed a lot of tuning up. D was the dependable "Camry" relationship of my life- I knew he had the potential to be a great husband, and I knew he was serious about being stable... unfortunately that relationship was a loaner. Mr. Social, well as the most recent relationship, I would compare him to his actual car- a hummer. He was larger then life, and was constantly being notice with others- he was lacking the dependability I needed. He was too  flashy and into being seen instead of settling down.

After tonight I think I really need to sit down, and figure out what I'm looking for in the big car lot called dating in Dallas. There are so many models out there; and while I know not all of them are bright, shiny and new, I also know I don't want to buy a car for its exterior appeal. I want to look under the hood, check out the trunk size (get your head out of the gutter... I move a lot, I need someone that can help!), and really decide if this is a car I can depend on.

So over these last few days of summer, I am going to make my list of criteria that I'm looking for in a car (hmm boy). I don't want to be taken advantage of when I walk out on that car lot us single girls refer to as Uptown. I'm not going to waste my time with a sales guy who is selling me all the wrong things. I will not be persuaded to settle for anything less then my dream car aka dream man.

More to come... Strap on your seat belts!
